Pentecost Celebration, 31st May

An Order of Service for Spiritual Communion for 31st May can be found here.

BBC Radio 4’s Sunday Worship, 8.10am – Pentecost. City Church, Cardiff, is normally a busy city centre church – one of the largest in Wales – and on Pentecost Sunday would be drawing together a global mix of worshippers, young and old, to celebrate a day of foundational importance to the denomination.

Now, living out a community life inspired by the Holy Spirit takes on new challenges in the context of Coronavirus. In a service led by Stephen Gibson, Dominic and Catherine de Souza, plus members of the congregation, they look at the hope offered by the Holy Spirit – especially when life does not go according to plan.

With music recorded at City Church before lock-down, including Breathe on me breath of God, Great is thy Faithfulness, and You are here (Holy Ground).

BBC 1’s Songs of Praise is being broadcast on Sunday at 1.15pm.

The Revd Kate Bottley celebrates Pentecost Sunday, the birthday of the Church. The bishop of Dover, the Rt Revd Rose Hudson-Wilkin, reveals the meaning and relevance of Pentecost, and we revisit stories that explore the themes of this special day, including transformation. JB Gill meets a tree surgeon who revealed how his faith helped him to overcome drug addiction. Kate visits Loch Leven in Kinross and finds out why the wild goose is a symbol of the Holy Spirit in Celtic Christianity.
