Remembrance 100

Remembrance Sunday: 100th Anniversary of the Armistice

As hoped, our churches were full on Remembrance Sunday this year – a fulsome tribute to all those who gave their lives in the Great War for our peace and freedom. My thanks to all who came, and especially to all those who contributed to the wonderful decoration of our churches with thousands of poppies, sewn, knitted, felted, drawn, even crafted in glass … It has been a sight to behold!

My thanks, also, to those who have dedicated time and love into the research of the lives of our Fallen. So many local families were affected by the loss of loved ones and those who came back so deeply traumatised. Thanks to our local teams and committees, we now have a lasting and fitting tribute to their memories and their stories will never be forgotten.

Most moving for me, I think, were the letters and cards sent to and from The Front. Messages of love, hope and encouragement, which speak to us of the human spirit. Thank-you also to the families who have shared these memories with us.

With my prayers and best wishes,

Revd Sally
