Choir introit: Thou wilt keep them in perfect peace by S S Wesley

Processional Hymn

During which the wreaths are placed on the altar by John Mallen and David Shannon

 All people that on earth do dwell,
sing to the Lord with cheerful voice:
him serve with mirth, his praise forth tell,
come ye before him and rejoice.

The Lord, ye know, is God indeed;
without our aid he did us make:
we are his folk, he doth us feed,
and for his sheep he doth us take.

O enter then his gates with praise,
approach with joy his courts unto;
praise, laud, and bless his Name always,
for it is seemly so to do.

For why? the Lord our God is good,
his mercy is for ever sure;
his truth at all times firmly stood,
and shall from age to age endure.

To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
the God whom heaven and earth adore,
from us and from the angel host
be praise and glory evermore.

Leader:      Peace to you from God who is our Father.

                  The peace be always with you

All:             and also with you.

Leader: We meet in the presence of God.

 We commit ourselves to work in penitence and faith for       reconciliation between the nations;

 that all people may, together, live in freedom, justice and peace.

Jesus said:

‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.’

                                                                                      [Matthew 5.9]

            ‘No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for a friend.’

                                                                                               [John 15.13]

Please sit or kneel

Act of Penitence

             Leader: For the hatred which divides nation from nation,  race from race, class from class,

All:       Father Forgive us

Leader: For the covetous desires of people and nations to possess what is not their own,

All:       Father Forgive us

All:       Father Forgive us

Leader: For our envy of the welfare and happiness of others,

All:       Father Forgive us

Leader: For our indifference to the plight of the imprisoned, the homeless,    the refugee,

All:       Father Forgive us

Leader: For the greed which dishonours men, women and children,

All:       Father Forgive us

Leader: For the pride which leads us to trust in  ourselves and not in God,

All:       Father Forgive us

Leader: Let us be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one          another, as God in Christ forgave us.

Hymn

The Lord’s my shepherd: I’ll not want;

he makes me down to lie

in pastures green: he leadeth me

the quiet waters by.

My soul he doth restore again,

and me to walk doth make

within the paths of righteousness,

e’en for his own name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through death’s dark vale,

yet will I fear no ill;

for thou art with me, and thy rod

and staff me comfort still.

My table thou hast furnishèd

in presence of my foes;

my head thou dost with oil anoint,

and my cup overflows.

Goodness and mercy all my life

shall surely follow me

                   and in God’s house for evermore

my dwelling-place shall be.

Act of Remembrance

The wreaths are collected from the altar and taken to the War Memorial at the back of the Church.

Please turn to face the back of the church.

Leader             We stand here today to remember lives sacrificed in the  service of our Country, and those traumatised and injured in conflict.

We pray for all who in bereavement, disability and pain, continue to suffer the consequences of fighting and terror.

We remember with thanksgiving and sorrow those whose lives, in world wars and conflicts past and present, have been given and taken away.

May we have such a devotion to justice and freedom that the heroism of all who fought, and still fight, may continue to be remembered in a nation of service and in a world of peace.

Roll of Honour

             The names of the fallen in both World Wars are read out by Jamie Duncan for. Bawdeswell, and Linda Rose for Foxley.

David Shannon:  They shall grow not old,

  as we that are left grow old;

  age shall not weary them,

  nor the years condemn.

  At the going down of the sun

  and in the morning, we will remember them.

All:  We will remember them.

Reading:  Micha 4.1-5 - read by David Shannon

Hymn

                   O God, our help in ages past,

our hope for years to come,

our shelter from the stormy blast,

and our eternal home.

Beneath the shadow of thy throne

thy saints have dwelt secure;

sufficient is thine arm alone,

and our defence is sure.

Before the hills in order stood,

or earth received her frame,

from everlasting thou art God,

to endless years the same.

 A thousand ages in thy sight

are like an evening gone;

short as the watch that ends the night

before the rising sun.

Time, like an ever-rolling stream,

bears all our years away;

they fly forgotten, as a dream

dies at the opening day.

O God, our help in ages past,

our hope for years to come,

be thou our guard while troubles last,

and our eternal home.

Please kneel or sit

Prayers

 Let us pray:

 For all who are suffering as a result of conflict, remembering  at this time Ukraine, Israel and Gaza; and ask that God may bring them peace:

 For the men and women who have died in the violence of war, each one remembered by and known to God;

May God give peace

 All: God give peace

 For those who love them in death as in life, suffering the distress of their grief and the sadness of their loss;

 May God give peace

 All: God give peace

 For all members of the armed forces of many nations who are in danger this day, remembering family, friends and all who pray for their safe return;

 May God give peace                                                                                             All: God give peace

 For civilian women, children and men whose lives are disfigured by war or terror, calling to mind in penitence the anger and hatreds of humanity;

 May God give peace

 All: God give peace

 For peace-makers and peace-keepers, who seek to keep this world secure and free;

 May God give peace

 All: God give peace

For all who bear the burden and privilege of leadership, political, military and religious; asking for gifts of wisdom and resolve in the search for reconciliation and peace.

May God give peace
All: God give peace

O God of truth and justice,

we hold before you those whose memory we cherish,

and those whose names we will never know.

Help us to lift our eyes above the torment of this broken world,

and grant us the grace to pray for those who wish us harm.

As we honour the past,

may we put our faith in your future;

for you are the source of life and hope, now and for ever.

All: Amen.

All:

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name.

Thy Kingdom come;

thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread

and forgive us our trespasses

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil

For thine is the kingdom, the power,

and the glory for ever and ever.  Amen

Hymn
                    Now thank we all our God,

with heart and hands and voices,

who wondrous things hath done,

in whom his world rejoices;

who from our mother's arms

hath blessed us on our way

with countless gifts of love,

and still is ours today.

 O may this bounteous God

through all our life be near us,

with ever-joyful hearts

and blessèd peace to cheer us;

and keep us in his grace,

and guide us when perplexed,

and free us from all ills

in this world and the next.

All praise and thanks to God

the Father now be given,

the Son, and Holy Ghost,

supreme in highest heaven,

the one eternal God,

whom earth and heaven adore;

for thus it was, is now,

and shall be evermore.

Act of Commitment

Leader:   Let us pledge ourselves anew to the service of God and of our fellow men, women and children: that we may help, encourage and comfort others, and support those working for the relief of the needy and for the peace and  welfare of the nations.

All:    Lord God our Father, we pledge ourselves to serve you and all            people, in the cause of peace, for the relief of want and suffering,

and for the praise of your name.

Guide us by your Spirit:

give us Wisdom:

give us Courage:

give us Hope:

and keep us faithful now and always.

Amen.

National Anthem

BLessing

God grant to the living grace and to the departed rest.

May the blessing of the Lord rest and remain upon all his people,
